Ways to Attract Visitors to Your
Site
Design for a target audience
Think about who will be most likely to visit your site
before you design it. Will it family? customers? strangers?
Include information that will be relevant to that group.
Keep your site attractive and simple. Graphics should be
small to prevent long load times, and try a design it for
800x600 resolution as it has become the most common standard.
Keep your site current
Update frequently. Even if your site is simply an information
page about yourself try and update it at least once a week
with new information. Make it a goal to try to add to you
web log daily. For a business add specials, news, and tips
regularly. If you want visitors to come back you must update
frequently.
Create dialog
Customers and visitors should be able to get in contact
with you easily. Display your contact information. Use their
suggestions to improve your site. Develop forums so that
you can start working on a community. A community environment
will always bring people back.
Use link exchanges
You need to get your name out there. A link exchange is
an agreement between two sites to provide a link to the
other sites. This can be mutually beneficial as well as
provide better search rankings on some engines.
Include your site address with traditional advertising
Put your web site address on business cards, company letterhead
and invoices, print and phonebook advertisements, company
vehicles, promotional items such as calendars and pens.
Link your web site in email messages
When sending email encourage people to visit your site
by providing the address. You can add a signature line in
such programs like Outlook Express that will include this
every time you send an email.
Register your site with major search engines
It's a must to have your site on search engines, it's the
way many users will find your site. Properly registering
your site will produce results that are worth the time and
effort.
